Desc Capt. David Peebles

Peeples/Peebles/Peoples DNA Project Website

Research Findings:

David Peebles, born abt 1610 in Fife Scotland. In 1633, David married Elspet Mackie. They had the following children:

  1. Criston (1634) was baptized in St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland.

  2. William, born on July 7, 1635.

  3. Alison, born and baptized on July 7, 1641, in Balclavie, Fife, Scotland.

  4. Margaret, born in Balclavie and baptized in St. Monance on September 18, 1642.

  5. John, born and baptized in Balclavie on April 9, 1644.

David’s first wife, Elspet Mackie, died and was buried in Carnbee, Fife, Scotland around 1652.

It is believed that Captain David Peebles, who was a Royalist, escaped to Virginia during the Cromwell Rebellion after he and 300-400 other Royalists had been sentenced to the block. He left his wife and children in Scotland. In 1649, he received a grant for 833 acres in Charles City (now Prince George County) Virginia. There, he built his plantation, “Bon Accord”. After Elspet’s death, he married Elizabeth Bishop and they had the following children:

  1. Sarah (about 1656).

  2. Christian (about 1659) married John Poythress Sr. on Dec.18,1688 and later inherited Bon Accord.

Captain David Peebles was injured as he led his militia in squelching an Indian uprising. He was buried on his beloved ‘Bon Accord’.
