Jesse remarried after Celia Dover passed away (abt 1850), to Nancy Ann Brown
and had two other children, Susan & Tom Cross.
Celia's father was Francis Johnson Dover, a Revolutionary War soldier, b. 28 June 1760, Haw River, near Guilford, Orange CO NC.; d. 13 Dec 1851,
probably Habersham CO, GA. He married 1) Mary Ann " Polly" Posey, 1786 in York District SC, b.
abt 1768, probably SC, d. between 1817/1820. She is the mother of Celia
Dover Cross, 2) Mary Mullinax. Several of the Dover siblings married Cross siblings.
I have not verified this
but I have read that Francis Johnson Dover was the s/o John Dover & Elizabeth Johnson. There is a John Dover in Maryland in 1670. Children

During a conversation with cousins, and comparing family records, including oral
histories, several cousins recalled the stories of how the Cross men would not fight in the Civil War. They would hide out
in the thicket and when the inquiring soldiers or anyone else would leave, the women would hang out a certain rag which would
be the signal it was safe to come in. My grandmother told of how the women would leave baskets of food at the edge of the
woods for the men. This may explain why only Henry
and William Stephen came to Texas in 1860. In GA, it is said the Cross men did fight in the war so perhaps these two came
here hoping to get away from the fight.

is some dispute as to whether Seley & Solis are the same child or separate children. Some family members think they are
the same so I am posting this here out of respect for their beliefs. When we know for sure which is which, then I will
correct this line. In the Rootsweb transcribed Hardin Co. TX 1880 Census for this family, there is listed "Solis A. Cross, W M 1 Yr". In
the Ancestry.com image for this page (Year: 1880; Census Place: , Hardin, Texas;
Roll: T9_1308; Family History Film: 1255308; Page: 428.4000; Enumeration District: 30;), there is a "Selie A. Cross, W M 1 Yr" BUT there is an "X"
through the name. Perhaps there is only the one child and these are the same children...but which name is correct? "Adeline"
is generally accepted as a female name but in both cases, this child is recorded as "M". It is accepted by the family
that there was a Seley (named for Celia Dover) and the child was a female. Solis is a male. Part of the problem stems from
Angelina telling the 1910 census taker that she had bore 11 children and only 4 were still living, however, we know that census
takers some times received their informatiom from other family members who were present or that they didn't always get the
information correct. One thing is without a doubt, this is another mystery in the Cross line.

days ago.
Janie I hardly know what to write that will be interesting to you if I could see you I would tell you a heep.
Janie I wish you was here to go with me to school we would have such a nice time. I am learning very fast. Me and Ma is liveing at uncle Sie Spell's We are liveing to our Selves our house us wrught at his gate. we have a nice time. Letha lives with uncle george
guynes she is nearly grown she lives a half mile from us. Janie if you will Come to see me I will give you a Sweet heart he

dau of Joseph & Elizabeth Rodgers/Rogers. They first appear in the 1860 Hardin Census as "Rodgers" and then
in the 1870 Census as "Rogers". Joseph is thought to have been born 1811. There has been a suggestion that Joseph's father
was Hugh Rodgers of Flint River, Madison Co, MS, who is listed in the 1810 Territorial Census.

children, remarried to a Crenshaw and had a daughter Martha Jane, born about 1863-4 and a son Daniel, born about 1866.

Calvin Spurlock (b. Feb 22, 1876, Vernon Parish, LA; d. Jun 5, 1900, TX, buried Franks Branch Cem, Fred, TX) on Feb 2, 1899 in Tyler Co., TX and had one child, Joseph Albert Spurlock who married
Matilda Reid/Ried. Wm Calvin was the s/o Andrew Jackson "Jack" Spurlock (grave) and Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" Trull (grave), both buried in Franks Branch Cem., Fred, Tyler Co., TX. Joseph Albert Spurlock was born Dec 12, 1900; d. Dec 21, 1971 and is buried in the Forest Park Lawndale Cem, Houston, Harris Co., TX
2) Willie Wade Pool on Aug 5, 1906 in Jasper, Jasper Co., TX and had two children, Mattie Lee Pool
and William "Bill" Pool. Mattie married Quinton Haynes and they had a daughter, Emma Lee Haynes who married
Rodney Block and who supplied the marriage records for Martha Adeline Baker. Willie died in a logging accident. He is
also a descendent of the P'Pools (Pettypool). At the bottom of the page, I will include some of Wade Pool's family info,
