My grandmother's School Friendship Book was given
to her by Mrs. Edgar O'Neil (Estelle). The book is falling apart so I have scanned it for preservation. There are over
200 pages in all and so this will be an on-going project. I hope you find friends, family and good memories as
well.
As you look over the pages, be
sure to notice the handwriting. Penmenship is no longer taught in schools, neither is Latin. Also, I enjoyed reading
the writings of her classmates and the old saying from the time period.
The time period covered is mainly 1923-1926.
(She does have a 1920 Easter card from Mrs. Edgar O'Neil.) The places are Silsbee High School, Hardin Co. to
Port Neches Business College and Port Arthur College, both in Jefferson County, Texas.
Some of the images are large and may be slow to load.

"Bessmay
was located on the Santa Fe Railroad just east of the Neches River in Jasper County. It was built by Kirby Lumber Company
and named for Bessmay Kirby, the only child of John Henry Kirby. It was a large mill, with a commissary, post office, and
several small businesses. The town was abandoned when the mill burned in 1949." -- PLACES THAT TIME FORGOT by Harold W. Willis
The late Mr. W. T. Block, the gentleman who supplied the article on Olive, TX, also wrote about Bessmay in the 1999 Beaumont Enterprise. "Sawmill town Bessmay gave its life to fire".
