There has been much discussion over James' middle name. Is it Irwin, Irving or Erwin? I believe it to be Irvin or Irwin due to the name in the second generation and to several historical records such as Census and the Death Record of Green Price, which lists the parents as "Irvin Collinsworth & Nancy Kilgore.)

The following information comes from the research efforts of Charlotte C. Johnson.

Charlotte Carpenter Johnson has spent many years researching the Collinsworth line. Because I learned early from my family that our ancestor was James Irving Collinsworth, I am stubborn about changing to "Ervin" ...but that doesn't affect the extensive research of Charlotte's!

Mary Ann "Polly" Collinsworth was born 1 FEB 1854 in KY, USA, and died 16 OCT 1934 in Hardeman County,TX, USA. She was buried 1934 in Goodlett, Hardeman Co. TX, USA. She was the daughter of 2. James Ervin Collinsworth and 3. Nancy Kilgore. She married Joshua Wilson Ratliff 10 JUL 1872 in Montgomery County, KY, son of William Ratliff and Mary Ann Lawson. He was born 18 JAN 1849 in Montgomery County, KY, and died 30 MAY 1925 in Hardeman County,TX, USA. He was buried 1925 in Goodlett Cemetery in Hardeman Co., TX, USA.

Charlotte and I have a friendly disagreement about James' middle name. I believe there are two James Collinsworth getting mixed-up here.

Some research I have found shows James IRVIN Collinsworth to be the s/o Thomas Collinsworth (1785-1850) & Hannah Williams (1784-1868), with siblings Mason (1810-abt 1875), David C. (1813-1892), Sarah J. (1821-?), Samuel Mays (1823-1900), John W. (1825-1930), Louisa C. (1829-?), and William Atchinson (1832-1919). Thomas & Hannah lived in Burning Fork, (was Floyd Co, now Magoffin) Kentucky.

After her second husband (Mortimer Whitehead Ratliff) passed away, Mary married William Spoonemore Jan. 6, 1948. He was a loving husband and father to Ben, Eugene & Dan Ratliff.

Percy is buried in the Goodlett Cemetery, Goodlett, TX. with Mamie

Emily and Percy were married a little over a year and then divorced. Billie was their only child.

Shortly after their divorce he married Mamie Guthrie. They were married over 20 yrs and had several children.

Died Aug. 19, 1992 in Seymour, Baylor Co., TX. Buried in Allen Cemetery, Allen, Collin Co., TX under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.

Elijah Collinsworth b. March 1849 in Lee Co. Va, d. Aug. 2, 1931 in Ivyton, Magoffin Co., KY.

ELIJAH COLLINSWORTH (s/o Thomas Collinsworth & Hanna Williams) was born Aug 1849 in Lee County VA and died in Aug 2, 1931 in Ivyton, Magoffin Co., KY. (Near Salyersville Town.) He married Alise Jane Bayes (b. Sept 1850) on Dec. 31, 1869. Alise was in her forties when she died as a result of a swarm of bees which landed on her, according to family lore. Elijah never remarried.

Children known from the 1880 Census below: Samuel- b. abt 1870, Mary-b. abt 1872, Wiley-b.abt 1875 and Frankie-b. abt 1879

Other children believed to be in this line are: William (married Alice Crisp), Floyd and Elizabeth "Lizzie".

Wiley Collinsworth, married Gracie Prater, d/o Dial Prater. Wiley moved from Salyersville, Ky to Washington state about 1918. More info to be added.

Notes: James Irving has been listed as just "James" and as "Irvin" in some of the census. He also married Nancy's sister after she passed away. I believe her name was Millie but will have to locate this information.

According to Bonnie, who sent the information on Elijah, including his Death Certificate, James died before Nancy. According to our research James outlived Nancy. There is a "James J." Collinsworth so I do not know if this pertains to him.

NOTE: I have recently been in touch with Charlotte Johnson. She shows James J. as being the father of James Irving (she has "Erwin"). She has Collinsworth information at Gencircles.com

Thanks to Jerry Ratliff, grandson of Mortimer W. & Mary Starnes Ratliff, sending me the correction for Mortimer's birth & death dates. He sent the photo of Mort's headstone and also provided the information concerning Mary Starnes, children born and also about William Spoonemore.
